If you would like to make a routine appointment with the nurse or HCA, please contact Patient Services by telephone.

Emergencies

During opening hours your call will be taken by a Patient Services Advisor who will be able to transfer you to the duty nurse/doctor.

The Patient Services Advisor will ask you for a brief description of the nature of the emergency as well as the name and address of the patient concerned. This is necessary to be sure that you are put through to the most appropriate person and that the call is handled most appropriately.

Occasionally the nurse or doctor will advise, having spoken to you on the telephone, that immediate hospital admission is the correct course of action and will advise that you go straight to hospital or will organise an ambulance for you. This is especially important for emergencies such as possible heart attacks or strokes - in these situations a delay in treatment may make the condition worse and lead to a reduced chance of recovery.

Chaperones and Intimate Examinations

We have a large and diverse clinical team here at Cathedral. When investigating illness, if clinically required, a clinician may need to examine you during your appointment.

All intimate examinations will be offered a chaperone, and a detailed explanation of the planned examination will be discussed.

If the examination is not being carried out by a GP, the clinician will explicitly explain their role and seek consent to perform the examination within their role. All chaperones are fully trained. 

Golden Rules for Appointments

If you decide that your appointment is no longer needed, please ring up and cancel so that someone else can have the appointment instead.

Does more than one family member need to see the doctor? If so, please make a separate appointment for each person.

If you have several different problems to discuss, please be aware that your doctor has only 10 minutes for each routine consultation.
